Judge Kenneth L. Gillespie

Judge Kenneth L. Gillespie was appointed as a Circuit Judge to the 17th Judicial Circuit in 2009, and was re-elected in 2010, and 2016. Judge Gillespie currently serves in the Dependency/Unified Family Court Division of the 17th Judicial Circuit and has served since January 2011. In this capacity, Judge Gillespie presides over abused, neglected, and abandoned children to ensure the permanency, safety, and well-being of children are met. For his work in the area of child advocacy, Judge Gillespie received the Elected Official of the Year Award from the National Association of Social Workers, and the Judicial Advocate of the Year Award from the Broward County Guardian Ad Litem Office in 2013. Judge Gillespie has also served as a visiting Associate Judge with the Fourth District Court of Appeal for the State of Florida, and has authored several opinions on a wide range of issues.

Prior to his appointment to the 17th Judicial Circuit, Judge Gillespie served as a General Magistrate in the Family and Dependency Divisions of the 17th Judicial Circuit for five years. In addition to his judicial experience, Judge Gillespie worked as a Senior Trial Attorney for the United States Employment Opportunity Commission and as a Broward Assistant State Attorney.

Judge Gillespie holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting with Summa Cum Laude honors from Florida Memorial University. He received his Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University; Judge Gillespie also earned an LL.M. with honors as well as the Faculty Award from Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law.
