Safe Sleep for Babies
Giving Every Baby a Safe Start
At the Children’s Services Council of Broward County, we believe that every child deserves a safe and healthy start in life. One of the simplest—and most powerful—ways to protect your baby is by practicing Safe Sleep.
Sleep-related infant deaths are preventable. Following safe sleep guidelines can make all the difference.
Remember the ABCDs of Safe Sleep
A is for Alone
Baby should sleep alone in their crib—no pillows, toys, blankets, or bed-sharing.
B is for Back
Always place the baby on their back to sleep, for every nap and every night.
C is for Crib
Use a safety-approved crib or playyard with a firm mattress and fitted sheet only.
D is for Develop a Safe Sleep Plan
Work with family, babysitters, and caregivers to develop a plan everyone follows—so baby sleeps safe, every time.
Why It Matters
Unsafe sleep environments are a leading cause of preventable infant deaths. By practicing the ABCDs, families can greatly reduce the risk and help every child thrive.
Let’s work together to spread awareness, share safe sleep habits, and protect the littlest members of our community.
