Marcus Bridgewater, also known as the social media sensation Garden Marcus, shows kids the lessons he learned in his grandma’s garden when he was growing up.
See Marcus Grow is a vibrant picture book that introduces young readers to the wonders of gardening while exploring themes of curiosity, discovery, nurturing and growth. In this story, the young character named Marcus learns from his grandmother in her garden. The book beautifully illustrates the parallel between plant care and human development, sharing the wisdom that both children and seedlings need “water and air and sunshine. And space to grow.”
Broward Read for the Record is a beloved annual tradition that unites thousands of children and adults across Broward County to read the same book on the same day. Led locally by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County, in partnership with Broward County Public Schools and the Early Learning Coalition of Broward, the initiative sparks early literacy, nurtures a love of reading, and emphasizes the importance of early childhood education. This community-wide effort strengthens connections and inspires joyful reading moments for young learners and their families.
Part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, the world’s largest shared reading experience, this celebration joins millions nationwide in raising awareness about the power of early literacy. Now in its 20th year, Read for the Record brings volunteers into classrooms to read aloud and distribute high-quality books—helping build foundational literacy skills and growing home libraries for children everywhere.
Volunteer at HandsOnSouthFlorida.org to read to children all across Broward County.
